On December 19, 2004, we lost our good friend Walt to complications from cancer.
To all of those who shared time with Walt, you know what an incredible individual
he was and how much he will be missed. Below you will find Walt's obituary as it appeared
in both the Latrobe Bulletin and the Greensburg Tribune Review. We will soon create a page
that will be dedicated to the life of Walter F. Gasdek so those who knew and loved him can continue

With deep regret, we announce the passing of band member Walter F. Gasdek.
Walter F. "Bud" Gasdek
Walter F. "Bud" Gasdek, 63, of Loyalhanna , PA , died on Sunday, December 19, 2004 in Latrobe Area Hospital . The second of five children, Walter was born on April 6, 1941 , a son of Frank C. and Eleanor M. Gasdek.
Walter graduated from Derry Area High School in 1959. He was awarded both the John Phillip Sousa Award and the Arion Award for musical excellence. He received his BS and MA from IUP in chemistry, biology, and education. He was a 1 st Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. He was a member of both the American Legion Post 6 in Latrobe and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Walter taught biology and chemistry in the Ligonier and Laurel Valley School Districts . In 1995, Walter retired from teaching. When asked what it was like to be retired, Walter often replied, "I finally found something I'm really good at."
Throughout his life, Walter was very active in Community Theater, his church, and singing groups. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels and was an active community volunteer. He was an avid runner who participated in five Boston Marathons, three Pikes Peak Marathons, and numerous Ultra Marathons.
Walter was a member of the Civil War Era string band Acoustic Shadows of the Blue & Gray which regularly toured throughout the Mid-Atlantic States . As a Civil War reenactor, Walter was a member of the 105 th PVI, Co. E. of West Newton, PA.
Walter is survived by his beloved brother Barry D. Gasdek of Laramie, Wyoming; sisters Debbie Booth of Saylorsburg, PA, and Kathleen Webb of Loyalhanna, PA; nephews Eddie Eaglehouse and his wife Patti of Akron, OH and Brian Booth of Saylorsburg, PA; and niece Sasheen Webb and her daughter Kamryn of Loyalhanna, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank C. and Eleanor M. Gasdek and his sister Frances Eaglehouse.
